Setting up a common law trust is an important and complex process for most people and will involve a close, long-term relationship with the trustee for years to come. Selecting the right trust company is a vital part of the structuring process. Expertise and responsiveness are important, but so too are likeability and integrity.
Being independent, ATC is able to be more flexible than trust companies that are affiliated with financial institutions. In practice, this means that we will work with a settlor and his or her advisers to create a trust that meets all the concerns and needs of the settlor and the intended beneficiaries; and we can accept a greater range of assets than just cash or investment portfolios, including real estate, intellectual property and shares in family businesses.
